Unussually for me, this wistful ballad is piano-driven, rather than acoustic guitar-led. Once i’d got the crazy signature lodged in my head, the melodies came surprisingly easily, and the words just seemed to be sat there waiting to be written, perhaps because they’re essentially true.

Before I started thinking of myself as a singer, I often wondered if there might be just one song out there that I could really sing – something I could deliver in my voice and really make my own. Then I realised I’d probably have to write it. Quite a few times I’ve thought I might have done just that with songs I’ve released, but when I started recording the vocal for Eleven Eight I realised that this is the song I was waiting for – the one I needed to sing.
